| The Armoury was established in January 2008 by Cassandra Smith and Jessica Steeber, closing just over a year later in May of 2009. It was located inside Milwaukee's historic "Fortress" building just north of downtown, and was inspired by The Armoury at the Moscow Kremlin, one of many stops on a 6 month trip the duo took around the world. The Armoury, previously a weapons factory, now houses the Soviet national treasures - and remains one of the most inspiring places from the six months. The gallery exhibited work by upcoming and semi-established local and national artists creating dynamic, challenging work in a variety of media, with an emphasis on installation work, aiming to create a unique dialogue between the art, the artist, the gallery and the viewer. |
